Walter B. Cobb, 88, of Tinton Falls, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. After serving in World War II
with the 5th Air Force, 3rd Bomb Group, 89th Bomb Squadron flying 36 missions, he returned to work at Fort Monmouth, NJ for 33 years as a machinist/tool and die maker, serving as a consultant after retiring in 1980. He was a member of the VFW
Post 2179, Middletown. He served as a 68 year member of the Wayside Community Fire Company and a charter member of the Board of Fire Commissioners of Fire District #1, serving 7 years. He served as Fire Marshall for the Borough of New Shrewsbury (now Tinton Falls). He was a member of the New Jersey State and Monmouth County Fire Chief's Associations, the Tinton Falls Emergency Medical Services, the Oakhurst First Aid and the Fort Monmouth First Aid.
Walter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie F. Cobb; three children; daughter, Linda J. Wiland and husband Charles of Littleton, CO; son, W. Alan Cobb and wife Stacy of Stafford Township; and son, Gary H. Cobb and wife Patricia of Oceanport. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
