William F."Bill" Glackin

William F. "Bill" Glackin, 81, of East Windsor, passed away quietly at home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Bill was born in Trenton, raised in Windsor and was a lifelong resident of the Hightstown/E. Windsor area. He was the son of the late Ethel (Burke) & Judge William H. Glackin. Bill was also predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Patricia A. (Higgins) in 2004.

Bill was a graduate of Trenton Catholic Boys Academy & the American Academy of McAllister Institute. Before retiring, Bill practiced as a funeral director for 55 yrs. Bill served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. with the 82nd Airborne Div., Ft. Bragg, N.C. during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service & Presidential Unit Citation Medal, Korean Service Medal by the Republic of South Korea, U.S. Service Medal & Good Conduct Medal. Bill & his late wife opened the Glackin Funeral Home on Morrison Avenue in Hightstown in 1957. Bill was involved in numerous organizations through the years serving as past president of Hightstown/East Windsor Jac-cee's, president of the Hightstown Planning Board, past president of Hightstown/East Windsor Lion's Club; lifelong member of the Hightstown American Legion including numerous times as Post Commander & past Commander of the 82nd Airborne Div. Parachute Command, Fayetteville, NC; Ancient Order of Hibernians Div. #1 Trenton, NJ; Hightstown Engine Co. #1 past president & Captain of the First Aid Squad & 9th District Disaster First Aid Coordinator; The National Funeral Directors & N.J. State Funeral Directors Association where he also served as a State Delegate at Large; member & past president of the Mercer County Funeral Directors Association and a lifelong member of the St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Hightstown.

He is survived by his 3 children, Neal Glackin, Barbara A. Glackin & Francis Myernick, Tim & Gwyn Glackin; 4 granchildren, Samantha, Corey, Jessica & Matthew Glackin; cousin, Ethel Unsworth, & the extended Higgins family.

Relatives & friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 11, with a Fire Dept. service to be conducted at 7:30. p.m. at the Old Glackin Homestead, 136 Morrison Ave., Hightstown. On Tuesday, March 12, friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Glackin Home prior to the Funeral Liturgy which will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 251 Franklin St., Hightstown. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hightstown Eng. Co. #1, 148 N.
