William J. Walter Sr.

William J. Walter Sr., "Bill", 89, passed away on Dec.26th, 2013. He died peacefully under hospice care surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born in Bogota, NJ and graduated from Bogota High School. He had many interests, serving as President of the Chemistry and Spanish clubs. He was also involved in the Aviation Club and the high school band. During his first year at New York University, Bill was drafted into the Army Air Corp, serving in England and France as a parachute rigger. He was honorably discharged at the end of the war as a Corporal.

Upon his return home, Bill began his 40 year career with the New York Telephone company. He met his best friend and devoted wife, Patricia, and they were married on Sept. 13, 1947. They were blessed with 4 children, William J. Jr., John R, Mary Beth Milas, and Mark S. They lived in Bergenfield, NJ., for 38 years and then retired to to Holiday City South in 1985. After retiring, Bill and his family spent several wonderful years traveling around the USA and Canada in their travel trailer. Bill was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill and his wife also served as EMTs on the Holiday City Berkley First Aid Squad for many years retiring as life members in 1991. He was an active member and communicant of St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Berkeley.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Katherine. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia, and his 4 children, and his sister, Marie McDermott of Punta Gorda, FL. He also has 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.

He will be laid to rest at "his final campsite", in the spring at Coytesville Cemetery in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. In Lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be sent to the Coytesville Cemetery Foundation, in care of Dan Coyte, 23 Andover Rd., Old Bridge, NJ 08857. Donations are used to maintain the family cemetery.
