William A. Kayan, 71, of the Whiting section of Manchester Township, died Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

Mr. Kayan was a machinist with the American Can Company, Edison.

He was an Army Peacetime Veteran and also celebrated 34 years as a Friend of Bill W.

Born in East Orange, he resided in Union, South Bound Brook, Brick, and High Bridge, before moving to Whiting 2 years ago.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Margaret Yelverton Kayan; a son, William J. Kayan, Brick; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Kevin Ritz, High Bridge, Christine and Robert Yanoso, Raritan, and Margaret and Scott Patterson, Forked River; a sister, Margaret Wiese, Whiting, Manchester; 9 grandchildren, Kevin Ritz, Christine Ritz, Christopher Yanoso, Paul Yanoso, Brian Yanoso, Ryan Patterson, Sean Patterson, Kyle Patterson, and Scott Patterson; and his beloved dog, Princess.

Friends may call from 1 - 5 pm Sunday at Layton's Home For Funerals, (609) 971-6800, 250 W. Lacey Road, Forked River, Lacey. Relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Monday at 9:30 am from the funeral home, where a funeral service will be offered at 10 am. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
