William Michael Mayer Jr.

William Michael Mayer, Jr., 65, of Lakewood, New Jersey, died peacefully early Friday morning, November 1, 2013, at his home surrounded by immediate family. Born in Paterson on October 10, 1948, he was the son of the late William Mayer, Sr. and Eleanor Budz Mayer.
Bill was an integral member of not only a family but also many different groups. He taught elementary school for 40 years in Woodbridge Township. Throughout his tenure at Matthew Jacob Elementary School, he has touched and influenced countless lives. His guidance, leadership and compassion also led him to be a Milltown Cub Scott Troop Leader, a Grand Knight of the Saint Bartholomew Knights of Columbus, a basketball coach at St. Bart's Church, a volunteer for the Special Olympics
, and several youth groups, including Milltown Teen Council and St. Bart's Youth Group, and Parent Support Group of NJ.
Bill had many passions. His happiest moments were visiting Disney World and attending Rutgers games. As an avid reader, his mind was constantly untangling new information while lounging on the Jersey Shore, his belly filled with a warm breakfast. Never a man to turn down a joke, his quick wit will be remembered fondly.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Kovacs Mayer, who refers to her husband as "the love of her life." He has two sons, Jeffrey Brian and Daniel William Mayer, a daughter-in-law, Chris Riquelme, and one grandson, Patrick Mayer. Bill is also remembered by his sister, Barbara Christen, and her family, husband Al and, nephew, Michael. Further, his mother-in-law, Grace Kovacs, and in-laws, Kathy and Robert Szafranski and Wendy Kovacs, will miss him in addition to numerous, adoring nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday November 4, 2013 at 10 AM from the Flynn and son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave, Fords, NJ 08863 followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace Church Fords, Interment will follow in Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Hopelawn. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 2 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted for the East Brunswick Knights of Columbus Council #11873.
