Roger Sharkey Obituary
AGE: 78 • Toms River
Roger Peter Sharkey, 78, of Toms River, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he lived there before moving to Toms River in 1970. Roger was a butcher for over 43 years and retired from Perlmutter Shop Rite in Toms River after many years there. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Toms River. Roger was an enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Alice Caputo Sharkey; his son Joseph R. and his wife Taneil; four daughters Susan Salimbene and her husband Philip, Donna Applegate, Colleen Lindsey-Silver and her husband Jeff and Marie Dinse and her husband Michael; and his cherished grandchildren Falyn, Ryan, Erin, Mikey, Morgan, Olivia and Sophia.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Toms River. Burial will be held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250 in Roger's memory.

It's a year ago today that God chose you to be with him in heaven. At that time I couldn't understand why you and not someone else's Dad. People always say "God does things for a reason" after some time had passed I realizied he did have a reason. You were in so much pain and discomfort that it would be selfish of us to keep you here. We miss you so much and it still feels like yesterday. I know you are at peace and feel great so when I get upset and think of you I shed a tear but in my heart I know you are in such a better place and you don't have to suffer anymore. Well Dad yesterday was your birthday and though it was rough for us I'm sure you had a wonderful day.
