In the juniorate he was a breath of fresh air and common sense.

First he was my teacher...then my "boss'...then my companion in the order. Totaled, he was my friend and so present. Rest well my brother Pete.

The last time I saw Brother Peter, he was joining us for a Christmas Luncheon at our home in Manasquan, NJ. He was joined by four other families, all previous members of the DeLa Salle Christian Brothers. The most memorable thing I will keep in my heart is that I NEVER saw Brother Peter without a loving, knowing, happy smile on his face. Despite the few times I met him, in comparison to the many who have written, I will miss him. He embodied the loving, open and optimistic Christ that I am certain he has met as he enters Heaven!

Brother Peter you were a most loving and enlightening teacher. At the conclusion of the prayer ceremony at your wake the Director of De La Salle said, St. Peter you will be missed.
You have gone to receive your just reward for continuing the work of your founder St. La Salle.
Thank you and God keep you close.

An old Latin student,

Brother Peter taught me in the juniorate. He first made us listen and then he taught.
More than that, however, he consistently was kind and was "for" us.
One small memory...in junior jear a number of us were in a bit of trouble for reading The Caine Mutiny. The director at that time thought this a very serious breach. In senior year Pete Mannion became our director and the juniorate performed a stage version of the book. There was no public discussion of anything in the past, just action that changed a perception of closed mindedness and brought fresh air into the "common room.
For over 40 years many of us have counted him as friend and a model of simple virtues like the gift of laughter. He was a blessing in my life and in the lives of many others.

I met Brother Peter in the fall of 1955. He was my Latin teacher; for the remainder of that year and several more, I was (at least during informal moments) "Hankus a um." The next year, he was both Principal and Director, a disciplinariian of sorts but much more a wise and prudent father figure. He seemed to think more of me than I thought of myself, a blessing that I will always remember.

Many years later, when I became a High School Principal myself, I consciously tried to model his approach. It worked, even in a very different setting.

Across the last several years, I have been fortunate to live nearby, allowing the opportunity to see him and enjoy a kind of friendship. He continued to be an inspiration.

Brother Peter, I will miss you.

I will never forget Brother Peter for all his help and guidance during my two years at Barrytown. He was always easy to talk to and gave each one his undivided attention. His personal assistance helped me to achieve one of the highest scores in the Latin finals throughout the State. That was only one of many fond memories. His kindness and patience made a very positive impact on my life. He has a special place in my heart, and deserves a “very special place” in Heaven. I miss him already. May He Rest In Peace!

Although, I only knew Brother Peter in my Senior Year at the Juniorate, it was a pleasure to experience his presence and guidence to all of us, and in turn, to each of us, as he reached to guide us in the LaSallian tradition. That one year set many guidelines to last to this day. Brother Peter, I wish you the best as you reach your quest and enter the Promised Land. I join the many thousands of those you reached out to during your long term as teacher, guide and friend. I pray that I get to see you again, some time in our future existence. St John Baptist de la Salle, Pray for him, and us.

Brother Peter was an inspiration to all who knew him at Barrytown. He had the gift of communication through gesture and respect for classroom procedures bereft of voice instruction. First as a Latin teacher, an exemplar as a pedagogue, and finally as a director of the Junior Novices, he earned the adulation and respect of those in his care. His humor and rumor of preternatural capabilities like bi-location and transcendence through solid surfaces as he glided through the juniorate halls were legends that rated repetition. He taught each of us what an excellent teacher ought to be and he possessed attributes that demanded imitation in the LaSallian tradition. My admiration and even more so my attempt to emulate his techniques in my own career reflect the appreciation and gratitude I felt for a formative presence in my teens. MY God reward him for his lifetime of faithful service.

As well as the Jasper Jottings and Manhattan Prep communities that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
