AGE: 85 • East Stroudsburg, PA

Edward Wilke, 85, of East Stroudsburg, PA, went to be with the good Lord on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. Edward was born in Newark, NJ, and lived there until he moved to Montclair, NJ, and then to Ocean Grove, NJ, where he lived for over 10 years before moving to East Stroudsburg, PA, where he built his own home. He was visiting his sister, Elizabeth Wilke, in Ocean Grove, when he passed away.

Edward graduated from Newark Diesel Institute with a degree in Theoretical and Practical Shop Training in 1949. He was Orderly to the Commanding General in the Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, NC from 1952 to 1953 and The Infantry School for Airborne at Fort Benning, GA as a Qualified Parachutist in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1954. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948.

Edward was with the New Jersey State Police for over 25 years and was supervisor of the photography unit within the Forensics Science Bureau of the New Jersey State Police before retiring.

Edward travelled extensively, enjoyed reading, and was very fond of all animals. Ed was a practicing Roman Catholic and devoted to his faith. Ed will be missed by all he touched and helped; he was selfless, not wanting to receive but always giving. Ed, you will always be with us. Everlasting love.

He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Ernest Wilke Sr. He was also predeceased by his brother, Ernest Wilke Jr., a war hero and veteran of WWII; his brother, William J. Wilke, also a veteran of WWII and a decorated war hero; by his brother, Joseph Wilke; and by his sisters, Bertha Wilke and Margaret Maccie. Edward is survived by his beloved sister, Elizabeth Wilke of Ocean Grove, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Route 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Uncle Eddie was a wonderful man who was a real inspiration to so many. He so reminded me of my own Dad. I remember those trips my Dad took to his house, and how Jr. would brag how delicious his pancakes were!
