Gerry , was a wonderful person. I knew him at Roanoke college.

Gerry Deverin was a decent, pleasant, innocent young man who never gave offence to anyone by word or deed. If there is a hereafter, he has certainly earned a place of honor there.
"His life was gentle, and the elements so mixed in him, that nature might stand up and say to all the world that-'this was a man'."

Dearest Deverin Family,
I'm so sorry for the loss of Gerry.
I had known Gerry from RCDS. He always stood out amongst the students, even as a young boy - with his bright smile and warm nature, and of course his energy and as another mentioned, his joie de vie. I knew him later as well at Monmouth U., and whenever I would see him here in Little Silver, he always had a warm hello, and always asked how our family was and how my sister was doing - his classmate at RCDS. Such a thoughtful and special man. One of my fondest memories of Gerry is of course, seeing him driving his vintage Mustang! He embraced life, and left a lasting memory on all of us who were blessed in knowing him. My deepest condolences go out to the whole Deverin family. You are in my prayers.

My sincere condolences to the Deverin family. I played hockey with Gerry at Navesink in the early 90s. While Gerry was one of the best players on the ice, he was also one of the nicest and most humble. Always with a smile and a kind word. He will be missed.

I'm sure that heaven is a brighter place with the arrival of Gerry. He had that special gift of making you feel better after having been in his presence. He was always quick with a smile, loved to laugh and had that twinkle in his eye.

We became friends at RCDS when he arrived I think in 2nd grade. I have great memories of spending time with the Deverin family and of course "Bo". Tackling Gerry was hard enough while playing football at the Deverin's, but seeing "Bo" the Great Dane galloping from the house barking at me was absolutely terrifying at such a young age. Of course Gerry thought it was VERY funny to see the look of terror on my face and would say "'Don't Move' and he won't bite you".

He was one of those unique people who was as great a man as he was as a young boy. He seemed to have a "joie de vivre" throughout his life.

Last night and today, I think what struck me most about seeing Bernie, Sean, Charlene and Eileen is that you share that special gift Gerry had to light up a room with your wonderful smiles. This must have been passed onto all of you by your mom and dad because as we talked about Gerry they both had those radiant Deverin smiles and twinkling eyes. Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Deverin gave us all the pleasure of knowing a very special person who will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Lori, Peter, Ryan, Kathleen and the entire Deverin family in your time of grief.

I knew Gerry since we were kids around age 7. We met on the tennis courts up at Navesink. We played every day all summer long for many a Summer. He was a great kid and an amazing, ever-frustrating opponent on the courts. Later, I joined him in school, at Rumson Country Day. I entered in the 7th grade. Adolescence can be a magical time for kids; and I'm grateful to say that Gerry added a lot of joy, laughter, merriment & fun to the three years I attended (7th - 9th grade). Our gang of little rascals enjoyed our time together very much; in & out of the classroom. Gerry and I played on the RCDS football team along with a great bunch of guys. We went up against a lot of bigger teams; from other "Day" schools & some boarding schools as well. Gerry could zig & zag and thus, completely baffle the defences of those opposing teams as he scored many touchdowns for our underdog of a team. I may have added a few myself to the scoreboard. I remember a sleep over at his parents' house in Locust. They had a huge family dog whose name might have been Marmaduke (as he was a Great Dane). Gerry and I played albums all night long (including Foreigner's first album which had just been released). We also played plenty of games in the gameroom downstairs including my first foray into table top bowling. During those 3 years of golden, wondrous youth (7th -9th grade), we also had many great parties on the weekends with all of our friends. One of the best was in the late Spring and many of us were able to jump in the Deverin's pool whilst listening to Rock n Roll music and enjoying the comraderie of youth. After our years together as kids & teens, I didnt see Gerry that often. We spoke occasionally and almost got together for a RCDS 25 year reunion. For his wife, children, family & friends I wish but one thing........that the memory of his bright shining mind, heart & smile never fade. We will all be reunited from Whence we all come from..........Heaven. I'm glad God put Gerry into our lives & world & hearts. I feel truly saddened that his health was compromised and that he left us so young. Thankfully, he added a slice of Heaven to all our lives. Thanks Gerry. I look forward to a best of 3 or 5 set tennis match when I return Home as well. May God bless us all.
Sincerely,
Christopher (Drake McGloin) Weaver
