Michael D. Orsini

Lakewood

Michael D. Orsini, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at his home. He was born in the Ironbound section of Newark to the late William and Caroline Orsini. He was raised in Vailsburgh and attended Lincoln Grammar School and graduated from West Side High School and was elected to the all-state football and baseball teams. He joined the U.S. Army Air corps and attained the rank of 1st Lt. and was commissioned as a Bombardier on a B-24 Liberator stationed in the Philippines. On his last mission over the China coast, his plane was forced to ditch into the Pacific Ocean. For his bravery in saving the lives of two of his crew, he was awarded the Soldiers Medal. His injuries placed him in Fort Dix Army hospital where it took four years to attend to his wounds. Upon release from the Hospital he attended and graduated from Seton Hall University. He was married soon afterwards and lived in Livingston, Middletown, Brick and Lakewood. He worked for the Colgate Palmolive Co in New York. He was the Manager of accounts receivable and also was included in various accounting positions and traveled frequently overseas in an auditing capacity.

He is predeceased by his wife, Irene Whalen Orsini; daughter, Marlene Brownridge; brothers, Richard and Anthony Orsini. He is survived by his brother, William and his children, Michael and wife Nancy, Deborah Orsini, Kim Bernhard and son-in-law, Thomas Brownridge. Also three grandchildren, Tara Krobatsch, Dana Twadell, Elizabeth Bernhard and 10 great grandchildren.

This obituary would not be complete until the following was added: Except for my second-time-around I would have had a sad life. Carol Norton is and always will be the love and devotion of my life, without her I would have passed away a long time ago. Love always Hon.

Visiting will be Friday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd, Toms River. Funeral Services Friday 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home, Saturday you can arrive at the funeral home 10:00 am, Entombment to follow at 11:00 am at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. I was a fellow member in Michael's high school graduating class of '43 and a Manager of the football team on which he played. I always looked up to him as a gentleman and a good human being. His commendable conduct during the war does not surprise me. Our prayers are with you.
