AGE: 70 • Carteret

Andrew E. Halkovich 70, of Carteret passed away on Wed., Jan. 16, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway. He was born in Elizabeth and was a life-long resident of Carteret. He was a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish- Holy Family RC Church in Carteret. Andrew was a Middlesex County Sheriff Officer for 25 years before retiring in 2003 and served on the Executive Board of PBA Local 165 and is a member of PBA Retired Local 600. He was a 1960 graduate of Carteret High School and an Army Veteran. He was a member of the Carteret Knights of Columbus Carey Council 1280 (Fourth Degree) and it's Color Gaurd. Andrew served on many Chairs for both the Local and State Knights of Columbus. Andrew was presently serving on the Carteret Board of Education and was a life-time member of the Carteret Volunteer First Aid Squad, and was a former Coach for the Carteret Little League. He is predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Julia Halkovich. Andrew is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joanne Halkovich; his daughter, Debbie Weaver and her husband, Paul of Carteret and his three grandchildren, Cassie, Ben, and Drew, who lovingly called him Bebop. The funeral will be on Sat., Jan. 19, 2013 at 9am at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Ave., Carteret. Mass will be at 9:30am at Divine Mercy Parish-Holy Family RC Church on Emerson St, Carteret. Entombment to follow at St. James Cemetery Mausoleum in Woodbridge. The visiting hours will be today from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NJSPBA- Sandy Relief Fund, c/o Synowiecki Funeral Home.
