Anthony B. McDonald, 90, of Manahawkin, passed away at his home after a long illness on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Anthony was born and raised in Clark and lived there most of his life before moving to Ocean Acres in 2000. Anthony served with the 452nd Bomber Squadron, 322nd Bomber Group, in the European Theater from 1942 until 1946. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 27, retiring in 1987. His life was committed to service: fighting fires with the Clark Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, ushering at different parishes for 76 years, and volunteering at Ken's Kitchen, St. Mary of the Pines, until his illness worsened in March.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marianne (nee Carhart); his sons, Matthew, John, and Thomas; daughters-in-law, Mary and Elizabeth; grandchildren, Erin, Christopher, William, Heather, Carissa, Brendan, and Margaret; and siblings, William (Sebastian, FL) and Lucy Gibson (Cortland, MS). He is predeceased by his parents, William and Barbara; his brothers, Phillip and Joseph, and a sister, Catherine Schieferstein.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13 at St. Mary's of the Pines Church, Bishop's Lane, Manahawkin.
