Charlotte Kay Consales

AGE: 91 • Lavallette

Charlotte Kay Consales (Nee Horne) Age 91. Beloved wife of Gene Consales for 63 years, who predeceased her, and mother of Christine Kay Consales who survives her, passed away peacefully while waiting to be picked up for a busy shopping day with her daughter and son-in-law John Douglas Peters on October 11, 2016 in Belleville, Michigan. Her parents Leighton and Henrietta Horne and her brother Lt. Col. Peter L. Horne Jr. predeceased her. She is survived by her sister-in-law Concetta Consales and by the Consales and Horne nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Kay was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 25, 1925. Her family moved to Millburn, NJ where she graduated as the captain of the cheerleaders with the Millburn High School class of 1943 with her future husband Gene Consales. She attended the Maryland College for Women and danced for the USO and professionally before marrying Gene in 1947. Kay then opened the Kay-Cee School of Dance and taught dancing for nearly a decade. Later she volunteered on the Contact-We-Care help line. Gene taught vocal music in Union, NJ for 42 years. They lived in Springfield, NJ and owned and operated the Baltusrol Swim Club there during the summers of 1957 through 1970. After this they moved to Lavallette, NJ where they invested in local real estate. Kay was a faithful friend to many with her hand-drawn cartoons on her correspondence, clever family Christmas cards and caring visits and phone calls. According to Kay's wishes, there will be no formal service. Arrangements were made by the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 Central Ave, Seaside Park and burial is at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to DMK Scholarship Fund, Inc, 885 Townley Avenue, Union, NJ 07083. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com.
