Clara M. "Claire" Balent

AGE: 87 • Bridgewater

Clara M. Balent, 87, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Fanning, Claire was born in Manville. She was an "Army Wife", and lived all over the world before moving to Bridgewater in 1966. Claire not only was a caring mom, homemaker and proud grandmother, she also worked as a Supervising Clerk for the Somerset County Board of Social Services in Somerville for 22 years retiring on April 1, 1993. She was a member of the American Legion Post 12 Ladies Auxiliary in Somerville, Bridgewater Senior Citizens and the Circle of Friends Club at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville.

She is predeceased by her husband, Major Louis L. Balent who died February 2, 1978; son Charles Balent who died on March 9, 2011 and siblings, James Fanning, Charles Fanning, Edward Fanning, and Mary Santore. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved son, Dennis Balent and wife Patti of Washington, NC; daughters, Nancy Cichocki and husband Jeffrey of Bridgewater, Janine D'Amato and husband Jim of Middlesex; sisters, Lillian Renulfi of Claymont, DE, Madeline Wojciechowski of Bound Brook; grandchildren, Russell Balent, Jamie D'Amato, Andrew D'Amato, Emily Cichocki and Matthew Cichocki as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said on 9AM on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Funeral Home followed by a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
