Diron Avedisian

AGE: 89 • Point Pleasant

Diron Avedisian, 89, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2013 at his home. Born in New York City to the late Diron and Ester Avedisian, he grew up in Nutley and went on to attend Fairleigh Dickinson Junior College before serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Avedisian worked for many years as Director of the Elks National Service Commission, and was the Elk National Representative to the Veterans Administration. He was in charge of the Elk Volunteer Committees in 171 VA Medical centers and numerous states homes. Mr. Avedisian was a dedicated member and past Exalted Ruler of Nutley and Point Pleasant Elks Lodges, and was an honorary life member of the Point Pleasant Lodge. He was also former district vice president, district deputy, and grand esteemed leading knight. He was instrumental in the organization of several new Elks lodges in the shore area, and also belonged to the Durand Masonic Lodge in Point Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine Snow. Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Lorraine Merritt Avedisian; his children, Dwight Avedisian of Brick, John Avedisian and wife Susan of Wall, Patricia Wisniewski and husband Joseph of Wall, and son-in-law, Donald Snow of West Long Branch, and his cherished grandchildren, Amanda and Michael Snow and Victor and Beth Wisniewski.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. with a prayer on Friday, June 12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown.
