Edward W. O'Neill, Sr.

AGE: 89 • Red Bank

Edward W. O'Neill, Sr., 89, of Shadow Lake, died on June 21, 2013 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Edward was a United States Navy Pilot in WWII, flying Corsairs off aircraft carriers in the Pacific Theatre. After his service, Edward graduated from the Newark College of Engineering with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was the owner of Jeffco Building Material Supply. He was a Former President of the Middletown Kiwanis Club and he was a current member of the Middletown Elks Club, Lodge 2179. Edward enjoyed reading any and every newspaper he could find. He also enjoyed going to the beach and working on diesel engines. His biggest joy was spending time with his family. The O'Neill Family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Bob Philpott, Edward's longtime caregiver and adopted "son-in-law", for his assistance and devotion.

Surviving are his daughter, Susan O'Neill; his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lynn O'Neill; his daughter-in-law, Diane O'Neill; his son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Kris O'Neill Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Cindy O'Neill; his son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Karen O'Neill; and his eleven grandchildren, Sarah, Devyn, Kyle, Gregory, Bridget, Brian Jr., Hiliary, Candace, Molly, Eamonn, and Rebecca.

Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife Evelyn Sterrath O'Neill in 2005, his parents, Hector and Anna O'Neill, and his sons, Robert O'Neill and Brian O'Neill.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 24 at 9:30 am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Monday, June 24 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
