Edwin "Ed" F. Connor

AGE: 85 • Rumson

Edwin "Ed" F. Connor, 85, of Rumson, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Ed was born and raised in Fair Haven, moving to Rumson in 1952. He was a parishioner of Holy Cross R.C. Church, Rumson. During WW II, he served with the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. Ed's career with the Boro of Rumson began in 1958 as the Borough Mechanic, then Superintendent of Public Works and then appointed to the Superintendent of the Borough's Sanitary Sewer System in 1972. He retired in 1989 after 31 years of dedicated service.

Ed was a life member of the WW II Veterans Association and was a charter member of the WWII Memorial. He was a life member of the Oceanic Hook and Ladder Fire Department and an exempt member of the Rumson First Aid Squad where he served as Captain from 1964-1965.

Ed enjoyed playing softball, golf and crabbing on the Navesink River. His favorite pastime was watching his cherished grandchildren play sports and attending their communions, graduations and weddings.

Ed was predeceased by two infant daughters, Peggy and Cindy. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret "Peg"; 4 daughters, Ellen Bannon and Nic Olson, Ocean Grove, Cathy and Richard Sanborn, Neptune, Gail and Ron Pecyno, Fair Haven and Jeanne and Jim Walsh, Manasquan; a brother, Robert of Rumson; two sisters, Marie Sanborn of Edgewater, FL and Catherine Yakle of Wapello, IA; 11 grandchildren, Ryan and Jennifer Bannon, Matthew and Stephen Bannon, Maggie Sanborn, Kaitlyn Sanborn and Jimmy Allen, Amy and Brian Boney, Camryn Pecyno, Alyssa Pecyno and Brooks Robinson, Jimmy, Bridget and Connor Walsh and his 3 great-grandchildren, Emily Di Lello-Sanborn, Grace and Sean Bannon.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, April 5 at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
