Ernest M. Horvath died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his home in North Brunswick. He was 83. Born in New Brunswick he had lived there before moving to North Brunswick in 1968.
He was a graduate of Panzer College in Montclair and received his master degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He was a guidance counselor at North Brunswick High School for 25 years before retiring in 1994. He was the first "Voice of the Raiders" having announced the North Brunswick football games for many years. He was a member of the National Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association.
Mr. Horvath was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in North Brunswick. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army and he was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Clark-Moetz Post #2319 in Milltown. He was a family man and enjoyed many walks through his neighborhood.
He is predeceased by his parents Martin and Rose (Molnar) Horvath and his sister Mary Lukacs. Surviving are his wife Mary (Juhasz) Horvath; his daughter – Karen Schmieder and her husband Mark of Richmond, Virginia; three sons – Ernest Horvath, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Franklin Township, Martin Horvath and daughter-in-law Sharon of Monroe Township, and Scott Horvath and his wife Winnie of Buckingham, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren – Nicole, Jaclyn, Steven, Michael, Hayley, Sara, Mikayla, Alexa and Emma; three great grandchildren – Anthony, Gabriella and Dominic; and two nephews– Dr. Joseph Lukacs and Dr. Martin Lukacs and their families.
Funeral services will be 9:45 am Monday from Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick followed by a 10:30 am Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church in North Brunswick. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Church, 277 Washington Place, North Brunswick, NJ 08902 or to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
