Frank Joseph Lofton, 81, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away at home on Saturday January 4, 2013 after complications brought on by cancer. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Frank and Josephine Lofton, he was raised in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of Ford Hamilton H.S. in 1950. He lived in Staten Island and Middletown, NJ before retiring to Little Egg Harbor. Frank enlisted in the US Army in 1950 as a Wireman and served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1951 where he ran telephone lines from rear areas to the front lines. He was honorably discharged in 1953 as Corporal and went to work for New York Telephone Company for 30 years before retiring as Repair Foreman. Frank joined the Air National Guard in 1985 and retired in 1992 after 20 years of combined military service. He also received his Associates Degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force in 1992.
Frank played semiprofessional and professional soccer with the New York Americans and was a certified Master Gardner from Rutgers Univ., he was involved in youth baseball and soccer for over 60 years, was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Tuckerton, NJ and was active in the VFW Post 316, American Legion Post 493 and Disabled American Veterans. He received Advanced National Diploma from National Soccer Coaches Assoc. of America, a Letter of Recognition from the mayor of Middletown Twp. for his involvement with youth soccer, he was a FIFA certified referee and received the Letter of Citation from the NJ State Senate for involvement with the Rainbow Foundation for children in distress.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Ann Lofton, children Joseph, Paul, Tracy, Kerry, Laura and Frank, grandchildren Lynn, Megan, Jon-Vincent, Brendan, Connor, Kymberli, Eamom, Shannon, Brittney and Tristen and great grandchildren Cody, Josh and Lexi.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at 10:00am at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, Tuckerton. Viewing hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm and on Wednesday from 8:30am to 9:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. www.maxwellfuneralhome.com
