Frank M. Furman, Jr.

AGE: 86 • Bridgewater

Frank M. Furman, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2013. Frank was a resident of Bridgewater for over 50 years. Frank was born in Port Jervis, NY, the son of Frank M. Furman, Sr. and Dorothea E. Quick. After graduating from Syracuse University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, he served in the Korean War. In 1953, Frank joined American Cyanamid in Bound Brook, NJ, where he met his wife. He was a research chemist there until he retired in 1989, and he held seven patents related to pharmaceutical process development. Frank enjoyed tennis, bridge and family activities. He was an avid gardener, focusing on hybridizing rhododendron, azaleas, and daffodils. Frank was an active member of the American Rhododendron Society and won many flower show awards. He also served as judge for many flower shows.

Frank was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Jean Haurand Furman, who passed away in 2007. He is survived by two sons, Brad Furman of Westport, CT and Drew Furman of Bridgewater, NJ, and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4pm Saturday with services at 4pm at the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N Gaston Ave., Somerville. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. To send condolences to the family, visit
