George Guba, Jr.

AGE: 88 • Highlands

George Guba, Jr., 88, of Highlands, NJ, passed peacefully on October 26, 2016 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. He was born at home in Irvington, NJ to the late Mr. & Mrs. George S. and Anna Guba. George proudly served in the US Navy in WWII. Upon his Honorable Discharge he continued his education graduating from Newark School of Fine Arts and latter attending Seton Hall University. His professional career included working as an Art Director for Hoffman Beverage, a Creative Director at Seagram's, then an Executive Vice President at Siebel-Mohr Advertising. George was the owner of Sportsman's Sanctuary, Fair Haven, N.J., an Orvis sporting goods store. He was world renowned for building, restoring and finishing bamboo fly rods servicing customers in North America, Asia and Europe. George was a gifted craftsman; he restored antique cars, farm tractors, and furniture. George enjoyed having a project to work on; could fix most anything, and graciously shared his knowledge with others.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Barbara (nee Amberg) Guba; his children and their spouses, NanJeanne and Paul Cosentino, Jo Ellen and John Maring, Gerice Guba and Albert Weaver, Christopher and Pamela Guba, James Guba, Mary Beth and Douglas Hambor, Paul Guba, and Patrick and Mary Guba; his sister, Helen Philippi; his 12 grandchildren, Jerice, Melissa, Sister Hope Therese, O. Carm, Kaitlyn, Marietta, Gabrielle, Laura, Kyle, Ryan, Brynne, Brandon, and Ryleigh; and his 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob and John.

George Guba Jr. was preceded in death by his parents Mr. & Mrs. George Guba Sr. and Anna Guba, his sister, Mary Foties, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Nanette Amberg.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 2-5 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 31 at 8:45 am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 195 Navesink Av, Highlands. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
