Harry E. Herbert, 62, of Allentown, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton. Born in Point Pleasant, he grew up in Brick and was a longtime Allentown area resident. He was a graduate of Brick High School and Ocean County College. Harry worked for the Department of the Defense (Navy) in Lakehurst for 39 years. He was an officer for the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society. He enjoyed crabbing in St. Michael's, MD with his friends, but most of all he loved all animals, especially his rescued dogs and ferrets. You could find Harry in his yard filling the bird feeders, putting out peanuts, and filling the bird baths with fresh water every day, without fail. Harry was a devoted hard worker who did everything for his loving family, Irene and Christina.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Irene C. Herbert; his loving daughter, Christina Herbert and his beloved pets, especially Echo who just adored him so and misses him as much as Irene and Christina do. Echo would always be at his side and she continues to look for him now.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, P.O. Box 43, Forked River, NJ 08731 or the Ocean County Animal Facility, 615 Freemont Ave., Jackson, NJ 08527.
