Helen E. Luban, 94, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Helen was the devoted spouse of the late Lt. Col. Albert J. Luban, U.S. Army (ret.).
Helen was the loving mother of Woodbridge Councilman Robert Luban and his spouse Lorraine of New Jersey, Ellen Weber and her husband Lou of Maryland, Barbara Irwin and her husband Ron of Florida and Judy Bart and her husband Carl of Pasadena, Maryland. Beloved grandmother of Louis, Patricia, Deborah, Diana, Robert and Denise. Also survived by 14 great grandchildren.
Helen and her family traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world as a U.S. Army family. Helen spent time in Texas, Virginia, Florida, New York, Illinois, Mississippi as well as Germany, The Netherlands and Thailand.
Helen worked as a Claims Representative for Aetna while the family lived in New York City in the early 1960's before the Army transferred her husband to Thailand. After returning to Maryland Helen worked as a Crossing Guard for Howard County in the mid 1980's. Helen was only a crossing guard for a brief time before being hit by a car. She then took a job with Anne Arundel County Schools working in the cafeteria of Brock Bridge Elementary until retiring in the 1996 due to health concerns.
Helen loved flowers, plants and her beloved pets. She always had collies, border collies and cats. She was very devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved having them come to see her.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Donaldson Funeral Home, PA., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, Maryland from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held during the evening visitation at 8:00 PM. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
