AGE: 85 • Lavallette

Helen Theresa Solon, age 85, of Lavallette, NJ passed away at Ocean Medical Center in Brick on October 31, 2016. Born & raised in Irvington, NJ, Helen relocated to Lavallette 23 years ago.

She retired as a principal in 1992 after 40 years of service with the Irvington Board of Education where she also previously taught 3rd and 6th grade and worked as a guidance counselor. Helen received her BA in 1952 and MA in 1954 from Montclair State Teachers College.

While in Irvington, Helen was the Vice President of the Irvington General Hospital Auxiliary and Secretary of the Civil Defense Corps of the Third Ward. She was an active member of the Irvington Teachers Association and the United Appeals and Cerebral Palsy Campaign. As a parishioner of Scared Heart R.C. Polish Church in Irvington she was a long time member of the Rosary Alter Society and played the organ for masses. While at the Jersey Shore, Helen was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Bay Head. She enjoyed playing the piano, needlepoint, and making traditional Polish Holiday dinners for her family.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Josephine Solon, her sister Josephine Golaski and brothers-in-law, Edward Golaski and Dr. Thomas Weber. She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Weber, of Livingston, NJ. Helen is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Patricia Maisenbacher of Gainesville, FL, Nancy Czaszynski of Ft Myers, FL, Mary Ellen Weber of Chester, NJ, Margaret Lindgren of Acton, MA, Audrey Weber of Basking Ridge, NJ, Thomas Weber of W. Caldwell, NJ, Stanley Weber of Livingston, NJ, 12 grandnieces and nephews and 7 great-grandnieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends for viewing on Thursday from 4-8pm at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue, Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:00am, Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head NJ. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E Hanover, NJ.
