I had the privilege to play for coach Mahon during my junior year at William Paterson College in 1985. He was an outstanding man, coach and teacher. I was always impressed with the consistency and compassion he demonstrated. Coach Mahon taught life lessons and commanded respect and admiration. I was honored to play for him, learn from him and become a better man because of him. RIP coach.

To Hoddy, Josephine and Hoddy's wonderful family,
I just received the news of Hoddy's passing. At the moment, I am at a loss of words but I can tell you that the 3 years I worked for Hoddy as his assistant coach at Upsala College were the three best years of my life. I had so much fun. My only regret was not staying in touch with Hoddy like I should have. Please forgive me! It really hurt when I left Jersey. He was a great man who left me with an everlasting impression of how to be a coach, a father and a man. God Bless you all!!!

We can't imagine what the ABC will be like without Hoddy sitting in his cabana with his cigar and his daily crossword puzzle! We will miss his presence, especially at the beach and on the golf course. Glenn is so happy our sons had a chance to golf with Hoddy on several occasions. He was a good man and will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

To the family of Mr. Mahon: Mr. Mahon was an awesome coach, great math teacher and a inspiration to the players and families of the OHS 67-68 Tornadoes. I am so happy and grateful I was able to see and talk to him at the class reunion in October and share some of the championship photos. All the players (my brother DeRoy) had a great respect and admiration for Mr. Mahon, it is not surprising he was named "Coach of the Year" in 1968. RIP Mr. Mahon....thank you for the wonderful memories...go Tornadoes. Blessings and love, Peggy(LeVesta) Jackson-Crute - OHS Class of '66

OHS '68: There are no words that could ever fully express the feelings we have for Mr. Mahon and how he touched our lives. I met him in Algebra I and could have cared less for that subject or for school. He caught me cheating on my homework and wrapped my paper into a ball and flung it over his shoulder and into the trash, all the while never stopping his lesson. He made his point loud and clear and as a result, I finished the class with a "B." I respected him and his influence has stayed with me throughout all my life (now 61). I face every challenge with respect and honor. Go rest in peace Mr. Mahon knowing that there is so much love in our hearts for you and that you have touched so many hearts! My heartfelt sympathy and prayers for Mrs. Mahon, all of his children and family.

My condolences to Hoddy's family. I played for him at Orange High School during his first two years as our coach. We were not very good but he began a tradition of pride in OHS basketball and in 1968 he led the Tornadoes to an undefeated season and was named Coach of The Year. He instilled in me a pride and sense of doing my best in all that I did. I will always be grateful for his guidance and caring.

Dear JP, Trish, Holly, Mike, Tracy and "little" Hoddy,
Growing up knowing your family was a whole lot of fun! Uncle Hoddy lives in my memory as the funny, caring wisecracker that had another life as a gifted Basketball coach! He always made great effort to reach out in warmth to me. My prayers are with you, Josephine and his grandchildren, his big personality will be noticeably missed, although I think my Mom will enjoy having him at her great party table in heaven! Loved your parents, both, and will continue missing them.
Love, MaryLynn

I am truly sorry to hear of your recent loss of your dad. I extend my sincere sympathy to all of you at what I know is a very sad and mournful time.

I know first hand how profound a loss it is when you realize that he will no longer be there for all the events in your life. I can tell you though that the very best way to mark his passing is by filling your mind with all of the wonderful memories you have of happier times.

Your dad lived a long and rewarding life and accomplished so much in his lifetime. He will long be remembered as the hardworking, intelligent, charming and loving man that he was.

To the Mahon Family,
Our sincere sympathy on the passing of your father, Hoddy, our friend and cabana neighbor.
We'll always remember the crossword puzzles, Star Ledger, and the warm and compassionate man. We witnessed how happy he was when his grandchildren entered the cabana and gave him a big hug and a kiss. He certainly was loved by all.
Felix will miss discussing basketball rules and interpretations and the mutual "old timers" from the past. Rest in peace our very dear friend.
