Irving Ronald Abbey, 86, a resident of South Bound Brook, NJ, died on Monday, October 7th, 2013 at Foothill Acres Nursing Home in Hillsborough from pneumonia, following a long illness. Born August 21st, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the only son of the late Madalyn and Irving S. Abbey of Honesdale, PA, and was a longtime resident of East Stroudsburg, PA, before moving to New Jersey in 2010. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the George N. Kemp Post of the American Legion. A graduate of Keystone Junior College with a Associate Degree in Business, he was employed by the State of Pennsylvania as a Computer Operator and Programmer for 26 years, before retiring in 1989. He was an avid golfer, history buff, chess player, and artist; he also loved building and flying model airplanes. He knew the Lord, and was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Fellowship in Martinsville NJ.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Edith M. (Dietz) Abbey, his only son Daniel W. Abbey and wife Anne Marie, and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Services will be 4pm Thursday at the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave., Somerville, processed by visitation beginning at 3pm.
