Irwin Hendricks was born in Florence, NJ, 88 years ago, and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. Irwin served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, Irwin attended college, married his high school sweetheart, and then opened Hendricks-Merritt Machine Co. in Red Bank with his father. He also served as a volunteer fireman for many years and as Fire Chief for Middletown Township in 1973. Other volunteer service in Middletown included being Chairman of the Zoning Board and a member of the Lion's Club.
Irwin was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth; and his brother, Dick. Irwin is survived by his wife, Jane of 67 years; his brother, Edward; his son, Bill, and his daughters, Pam Hendricks and Kim Ford, as well as seven grandchildren, Wendy, Beau, Shane, Hayley, Drew, Katie and Jenna.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A funeral service will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the River Plaza Fire Co., 26 Applegate St., Red Bank, NJ 07701.
