Jacqueline Jean Roper Watt

Jacqueline Roper Watt, formerly of Waretown, NJ, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in Fountain Valley, CA, where she had resided for the past 7 years. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Watt grew up in Dumont, NJ where she lived until her enlistment as a Wave in the United States Navy during World War II. She was stationed in Washington, DC where she met and married Philip Creighton Watt, a Navy officer. In 1974 after Mr. Watt's retirement from IBM, they moved from New Canaan, CT to Waretown, NJ. They joined St. Stephens Episcopal Church where Mrs. Watt became a Daughter of the King, sang in the church choir and was a member of the Alter Guild.

She is survived by her three children, Deborah (Watt) Garfield, Cheryl (Watt) Linsky and Jeffrey Watt. She is also survived by her brothers, Donald Roper and John "Jack" Roper and his wife, Helen; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Roper (Mrs. Bernard Roper). Mrs. Watt was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Philip Creighton Watt, as well as her brother, Bernard Roper.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Waretown, NJ, with interment in St. Stephens's Church garden.
