AGE: 90 • Toms River

James J. Brady, 90, of Toms River passed away at his home on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016. Born and raised in Maplewood, at the age of 17 he joined the US Navy serving in WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked for the IRS while attending Seton Hall University graduating in 1960 with a degree in Accounting. He went on to operating his own State Farm Insurance agency before deciding his real passion was to teach. He then devoted most of his professional career teaching at Central Regional School. After retiring from teaching he served as Interim Business Administrator for the Point Pleasant School system.

In 1952 he married Patricia Hynson with whom he had 6 children. He and Pat raised their children in Point Pleasant where he was an active parishioner of St. Martha's Church, participating in the ground breaking of the church, as well as a lector. He was also very involved in his community. He was past commander of DAV Post #69, current member of DAV Post#24, as well as, American Legion Post #129. He was the co-founder of the current Point Pleasant Democratic Club and served as its president. He was the first Democratic elected to its town council and also a member of the Point Pleasant Board of Education. While raising his family in Point Pleasant he also helped established the Little League and served as a coach for many years.

Mr. Brady was predeceased by his first wife Patricia in 1984, his sisters, Mildred in 2002 and Arleen in 2004. Surviving are his wife Linda Russo Brady and his 6 children: James P and his wife Kathryn of Toms River, Terrence M of Brick, Matthew J of Riverview, FL, Sean T and his wife Maryann of Forked River, M. Patricia Zankel and her husband Barry of Lakewood, and Colleen F and her husband Conrad of Toms River. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Nora Plankl and her husband Kurt, Ashley and her husband Brandon, James and his wife Victoria, Meghan, Katie, and Michael Wood, and Kaitlyn and Kerri Brady; Great grandchildren Isabelle and Alexander Pagelow and Parker and James Brady.

Visitation will be held, Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 5pm - 8pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, NJ. Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Thursday 9:15 am @ St. Luke RC Church, Arrive at the Funeral Home 8:15 am. Burial will follow at St. Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Mother House of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Wilton, CT who were Mr. Brady's teachers in his youth. www.silvertonme morial.com
