James Lewis Thompson Jr. Obituary
James Lewis Thompson, Jr.

AGE: 52 • Brielle

James Lewis Thompson, Jr., 52, of Brielle, passed away on Sunday, November 27. James, known to his family and friends as Jim, Jimmy, and Red Dog, was born at Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, and lived in Brielle his entire life.

He was a 1983 graduate of Manasquan High School where he played on the varsity football and golf teams. He attended Paul Smith's College and West Chester University. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Saint Uriel the Archangel, Sea Girt, where he served faithfully as an acolyte from age 7 until after college. He was an usher and had been a member of the Vestry.

He formerly owned The Sea Girt Lodge and most recently owned Thompson's Porta-John Service. He was a past member of Manasquan River Golf Club and was a natural golfer who at one time held the title of Longest Drive Champion. He loved surf fishing, hunting, dogs, and his second home in New York State. We would be remiss if we didn't mention his love of John Wayne and Jeremiah Johnson. But above all, he especially loved his two sons Jimmy and Bobby.

Jim is survived by his sons James Patrick and Robert Daniel, at home, and their mother Peg Dey Thompson; his parents Dr. and Mrs. James L. Thompson, Sr.; his sister and her husband Diane and Glenn Miller; his brother and his wife Michael and Christine Thompson; his niece Diane Miller; his nephews Andrew Miller and Luke, Will, and Jake Thompson; his cousins Lucinda Kennedy and Jeffrey Capshew, and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11am, Saturday, December 3, at The Church of Saint Uriel the Archangel, Philadelphia Blvd. and 3rd Ave., Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Diane Miller, c/o Orender Family Home, for the purpose of Jimmy and Bobby's educations. Please mail to 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, NJ 08736.
