James McKenzie, 93, of Red Bank, NJ, passed away on February 20, 2014. He was born in Ansonia, Connecticut to Jessie B and Jesse McKenzie. James was affectionately known as "Pip" to his relatives and friends, and "BaBa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was the proprietor of Fountain Cleaners in Cliffwood, NJ for thirty-three years. He was named Businessman of the Year for two years. He was an avid golfer who traveled extensively to golfing events. He was also a member of the Red Bank Men's Club and remained active until his illness. He was a long-time resident of Neptune, NJ where he left a host of friends and relatives before moving to Red Bank, NJ after his marriage to Mary Farrell.
James McKenzie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary McKenzie; his daughter Donna Read of Westchester County, NY; two grandsons, Sean Read, New York, NY, and Todd Read, of Westchester County, NY; one granddaughter, Tracy Rhett and her husband Geoffrey Rhett of Westchester County, NY; two great-grandsons, Logan and Taylor Rhett; three nephews, Thomas, Dean, and Nicholas McKenzie; and many devoted cousins and friends. He will be sorely missed by the Red Bank community for his kind and gentle ways towards all.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until noon at Shrewsbury Ave. A.M.E. Zion Church, Red Bank, NJ. The funeral service will begin at noon. Entombment will be held at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport, NJ. Childs Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.
