JULIA EMMA BOTKIN
AGE: 99 FORMERLY OF RED BANK
Julia Emma Botkin 99, passed peacefully on April 28, 2009, at Mertens House in Woodstock, Vermont. She lived most of her life in Red Bank, New Jersey and spent the last few years under the loving care of her daughter, Sue, in Woodstock. Julia was born on September 28, 1909, to Alice Mulford Bishop and Waldron Moore Bishop and grew up in New Jersey. She attended schools in New Jersey graduating from the Newark Institute of Fine Arts. She married Harold M. Botkin in 1933. They had 37 wonderful years together when he passed in 1970. Later, she married Arthur Muelberger of Rumson, New Jersey, who predeceased her in 1996. Julia's community service for Monmouth County and Red Bank was very important to her. She helped form the Junior League of New Jersey in 1945 and remained a member throughout her life. She was a member of the Riverview Hospital Auxilary, The Family and Children's Services, Planned Parenthood of New Jersey, and as a board member of the Woman's Exchange. The Botkins were also members of the Sea Bright Beach Club. Julia's beloved home on the Navesink was a gathering place for her family for over fifty years. There she loved sewing, knitting, quilting and other hobbies such as growing her prized roses. She and her husband drew great pleasure in entertaining on the river.
She is survived by a devoted family. Her children, Jean Botkin Duncan and her husband, William, of Little Silver, N.J, Suzanne Mulford Botkin of Woodstock, VT, James Waldron Botkin of Cambridge, MA and Abiquiu, N.M.; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. The Celebration of Life service and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire, 66 Benning Street, West Lebanon, New Hampshire 03784 or Mertens House, 73 River Street, Woodstock, Vermont 05091. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, words of support and other acts of kindness to us at this time. May God bless and keep each of you.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Grammy. I always enjoyed seeing her when I would visit Betsy at Grammy's house, and have lots of fond memories of that house on the river. She was a lovely woman, and I'm sorry for your loss.
