Julia R. Cannella, age 73, a long time resident of Eatontown died peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Julia was born in Newark, the eldest daughter of Antonio Gaetano and Margaret Anello Gaetano. She moved with her family to Long Branch when she was 12 and was a 1958 graduate of Long Branch High School. She retired from the United States Postal Service. Julia, also known as Judy, Aunt Ju-Ju, Jules and Meme was known for her love of life, love of her family and many friends, her humor and her thoughtfulness. Judy remembered all birthdays and anniversaries and was known for sending greeting cards with her infamous stickers. She often bought 'for no reason' surprise gifts for family and friends. She loved fresh flowers, butterflies, animals (especially Tigger) and Elvis. She was the godmother of 7 and was chosen to be in numerous weddings throughout her life. Julia relished her Italian heritage, including the family Christmas Eve celebrations and the 'Sunday Macaroni.'
Surviving are her 2 sons, Frank Cannella, Jr and his wife Christine of Eatontown, Joseph Antonio Cannella and his wife Dana of Ocean; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas, Cross, Antonio and Jenna Cannella; a brother, Joseph P. Gaetano and his wife Angela (predeceased) of Eatontown; a sister, Rosalie Sneath and her husband Kenneth of Eatontown; 8 nieces and nephews, and 24 grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, from 5-9 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. Funeral Friday, 8:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass at St. Dorothea's Church in Eatontown. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, Lockbox #1352, P.O.
