Richard J. Alexander

AGE: 85 • Sea Girt

Richard J. Alexander, 85, a long time resident of Sea Girt, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, July 19, 2013, after a 10 year battle with Parkinsons Disease. Born in Jersey City, Richard was a World War II veteran serving as a seaman first class in the United States Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1950. Richard married Anna Gloria Fargo in 1949, continuing a loving, inseparable courtship that has lasted over 71 years.

From modest beginnings, Richard's working life encompassed a 40+ year career as a production and distribution manager, most of those years at the Walter Kidde Company in Bellville, NJ, and Frequency Engineering in Farmingdale, NJ. Richard was also an active and long-standing member of the Christian Brothers Academy Fathers Club and Century Club, serving since 1967.

Richard is survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Gloria Harter and husband Raymond Harter of Sea Girt, son Richard Jr and wife Joanne of Yardley, PA, son Mark and wife Kathleen of Blauvelt, NY, and son Denis and wife Mary-Lou of Dallas, Texas, and his sisters Marion Blaisdell, of Lakewood, N.J. and Mary White, of Delray Beach, Fl.. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kim, Kirsten, Jon, Jason, Melissa, Danielle, Rachel, Brittni, Conner, Denis and Sean, and 11 great grand children.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at O'Brien's Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Road in Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00am at the Church of St. Leo the Great, 50 Hurley's Lane, Lincroft, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation
