AGE: 86 • Spring Lake Heights

Robert M. Ballas, 86, of Spring Lake Heights and formerly of Manhattan and Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, surrounded by family.

Robert was born in Yonkers and has resided in Spring Lake Heights since 1971. He was a proud United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by Bell Systems in both New York and New Jersey for 36 years.

Since residing in Spring Lake Heights Robert was a communicant of St. Catharine's Parish, Spring Lake.

He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret Dunnigan Ballas, in 1973 and his parents Michael and Edith Helwig Ballas.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years Eileen Blaney Ballas, his devoted children, Lynn Ballas of Cambridge, Mass., Diane Ballas Smith and husband Tom of White Plains, N.Y. and Christopher Ballas and wife Laura of Spring Lake Heights, and his 3 grandchildren Michael, Robert and Claire Ballas.

Robert was a member of the Dawn Patrol Golf Club, Spring Lake. He was an avid reader and independent movie buff, enjoyed the New York Times crossword puzzle, traveling to the Caribbean and Florida with his wife, and sharing his love of nature with his grandchildren and watching his football and baseball Giants teams.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ 07719. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Catharine's RC Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Burial will be in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, NJ 08562.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Francis Breadline, 144 West 32nd Street, New York, NY 10001. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home on Sunday.
