AGE: 93 • formerly of Beach Haven
Ruth Annette Adams, nee´ Richmond, of Clifton, NJ, formerly of New York City, and Beach Haven, NJ, died peacefully at her home in Country Club Towers on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the age of 93. She graduated from Radcliffe College Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1940, receiving her B.S. degree in English Literature. She then earned a Masters in Education in 1959 from C.C.N.Y. She earned a PhD. in Ed. Psych. at NYU in 1965. During her retirement, she received her certification as a school psychologist and learning consultant from Georgian Court in 1982. She was a member of the International Reading Association and served as President of her local chapter of the A.A.U.W. Dr. Adams had an illustrious teaching career in NYC public and private schools, working for the Board of Education, and as a Professor at City College where she ended her career as Associate Dean of the School of Education. In retirement on Long Beach Island, where she was a member of the Jewish Community Center, she served as a learning consultant and a member of the Child Study Team at L. B. I. Elementary School. While living in Clifton, she was a member of the Upper Montclair Country Club and the Sequoia Club of the YM-YWHA where she was honored for her philanthropic work.
She is survived by her sister, Estelle Robinson; a son, David James Adams; a daughter and son-in law, Judith Ellen and Daniel Andrew Anderson; three grandsons and their families, Evan James and Rebecca Lynn Anderson, David Scott Adams, Keith Anthony and Melanie Sue Adams, and one great grandchild, Willa Angelina Adams.
Services and entombment took place at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah on Sunday, June 30th in Paramus, NJ. Rabbi Steven Kushner officiated. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Jewish Appeal or The Jewish National Fund.
