Sylvia Potter

AGE: 94 • Lakewood

Sylvia Potter, 94, of Lakewood, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, surrounded by family at Kimball Medical Center. Born in Manhattan, she resided in San Francisco and Ellenville, NY before moving to Lakewood 31 years ago. She ran the Terminal Diner in Ellenville and, together with her husband, a creamery in San Francisco and was a book-keeper for various businesses, the last of which was for the law firms of Gelzer - Kelaher and Bogan & Bogan before retirement. She was part-owner of "5 Edwards Place" in Ellenville, a family style tavern enjoyed by patrons and where many family memories took place. She enjoyed the activities of the Catskill Mountains in their heyday, but most importantly, she adored her relationships with her 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. An avid reader, mahjong & card player and knitter, her afghans, along with her independent spirit will be sorely missed by all.

She was pre-deceased by her mother, Lillian, and her father, Irving; her former husband, Sol Trachtenberg, and second husband, William Potter. Surviving are her daughter, Lois Gertner (Jerome) of Lakewood; her sons, Sam Trachtenberg (Jill) of Pinehurst, NC, and Irving Trachtenberg (Ellen) of Lexington, KY, along with her grandchildren: Sean (Marla), Eric (Deborah), Mitchel (Ilana) and Heath Gertner; Seth Trachtenberg (Jennifer) and Randi Seran (David); Stephen Trachtenberg (Karen) & David Trachtenberg; GJ and Garrett (Ellen) Gerard; and her 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place 1 PM Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the Holocaust Memorial Chapel, Ramsey Ave. & East 7th Street, Lakewood, NJ. Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter, Lois.
