Thomas T. Buckley, 84, of Fairway Mews, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born in Washington, D.C. to Thomas and Dorothea Clipper Buckley. He married the former Patricia Cronin of Elizabeth in 1958, and lived with his family in Washington, northern Virginia and Elizabeth, NJ before retiring to Sea Girt in the 1980s. He lived in Sea Girt until moving to Fairway Mews in 2003. Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He was a graduate of Duke University. He worked for many years for his family's business, Wall Products, in Washington DC, and retired as an insurance representative for the Independent Order of Foresters in Elizabeth.
Thomas was very active in St. Catharine's and St. Mark's RC Churches, and enjoyed volunteering as a Fire Police officer for the Sea Girt Fire Department for nearly 20 years. In his final years, he took great joy in walking the boardwalk in Sea Girt and following local Little League baseball teams. He was everyone's biggest fan.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Patricia Buckley; and his loving children, Brian Buckley and wife Barbara of Sea Girt, Michael Buckley of Raleigh, NC, Catherine Buckley and husband Peter Gruenberger, and Ellen Buckley and husband Bill Custer, both of Ellicott City, MD. He is also survived by his seven dear grandchildren, Eric, Andrew, Meghan, Erin, Kyle, Tyler, and Evan.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 19 at St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt. Following the Mass, burial will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, 53 Inman Ave., Colonia, NJ 07067. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Sea Girt Volunteer Fire Company, 319 Baltimore Blvd., Sea Girt, NJ 08750 or Visiting Nurse Association Health Group, 176 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701, in memory of Thomas.
