AGE: 92 WANAMASSA
Samuel Adler, 92, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Sam was born in the Lower East Side, New York City, and moved to the Jersey Shore in 1942 Here he resided in Wanamassa, Ocean Township, since 1954. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School and Monmouth College. Samuel worked at Fort Monmouth for 35 years as a mechanical engineer and instructor. He received numerous awards and accolades for his technical contributions to the Department of Defense. Sam participated in the development of satellite communications during the 1950's and 1960's. He was a founding member of Temple Beth Torah in Wanamassa and served as president of the Senior Club there for many years. Samuel was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) serving as their Congressional liaison and lobbying for legislation to safeguard their retirement benefits. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, always offering a hand to help or words to encourage or comfort. He was a quiet, kind, dignified man, who taught by example.
Samuel was the son of Aaron and Rose Adler. He is predeceased of Ruth, his wife of 62 years. Surviving him are his daughters, Harriet Miller and Barbara Boden and husband Richard Boden; his son, Jack Adler; and his nephew, Jerry Vogel. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral was conducted on Sunday, October 10, 2010. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association.
