Thomas C. Hiering, 89, of Seaside Park and Singer Island, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at his home in Seaside Park. Born in his family's home in Seaside Park on Jan. 28, 1924, Tom passed away comforted by his family in the same room where he was born. Tom was proud to be a lifelong resident of Seaside Park. After graduating Newman School in Lakewood, Tom attended Princeton University and graduated in the class of 1944. He was a member of the Princeton Club and was an active member of the Alumni.
He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving as a lieutenant aboard the destroyer USS Osterhaus. After his service to his country, Tom owned and operated Thomas C. Hiering Realty & Insurance, Seaside Heights for many years. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Catharine of Siena Church, Seaside Park. He previously served on the Central Regional Board of Education and was active in the Seaside Community.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Phoebe Hiering; and his brothers, Albert Hiering, William T. Hiering and James G. Hiering. Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Phoebe Peckos, Alberta Hiering, Christine Beatty, William T. Hiering Jr., Robert Hiering, Carol Hiering, Lisa Urbank, Susan Hiering, Leslie Schmidt, Julie Sullivan and Tricia Schilling. He is also survived by his close family friend, Michael Kubichek and many grandnieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral Mass to celebrate Thomas' life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at St. Catharine of Siena Church, 50 E St., Seaside Park. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River. Friends are invited to visit www.andersonandcampbell.com to send tributes to his family.
