Sergio "Sam" Verdesco

Sergio " Sam" Verdesco, age 79, of Lanoka Harbor, Lacey died Sunday February 2, 2014 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. He was the owner of Sam's Shell Service, East Brunswick, NJ. Mr. Verdesco was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4815 of St. Thomas The Apostle Church of Old Bridge, former president of NJ Gasoline Retailers Association and one of the founding members of the Weehawken Chamber of Commerce. He was born in Italy coming to the United States as a child, living in Hoboken and East Brunswick before moving to Lanoka Harbor ten years ago.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years Anna, his children Michael and Lorena Verdesco of Old Bridge, Mark and Linda Verdesco of Sparta, NJ, Richard Verdesco of Forked River, NJ and Maria and William Clohosey of Shark River Hills, NJ; two sisters Lucia Giancaspro of North Plainfield and Rose Armenio of Scotch Plains and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 at the Layton's Home For Funerals, 250 Lacey Rd., Forked River, NJ. Relatives and friends may arrive at the funeral home Friday morning at 10:30. An 11:30 funeral mass will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Waretown, NJ.
