Piedad A. Deasey, 68 of Spring Lake NJ, died Friday, February 7th at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Oct 12, 1945 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Pia was educated in Catholic boarding school and graduated from University with a bachelors degree in Accounting and a masters degree in Education minoring in child psychology. She came to the United Stated after graduating college to pursue her career and eventually met her husband William L. Deasey. After marriage she settled down to raise her family as well as run her own jewelry business; when her husband passed away in July of 1999 she returned to teaching; as an elementary school Spanish teacher. She helped build a Spanish program for St. Denis school that received presidential recognition and praise, Pia also helped the Spanish community through St. Marks Church in Sea Girt NJ establish themselves by finding them housing and jobs while also providing them with the basic necessities they needed to help them get established. She volunteered her time and helped parolee's get back on their feet through Second Chance in Neptune City NJ. Pia was a champion of the meek and never turned her back on anyone who was in need of help.
She is survived by her sister Elsa Nura of Queens NY and her her son William L. Deasey II his wife Ashley and their two sons William Anthony Deasey and Jonathan Thomas Deasey and daughter Cathleen Deasey.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2104 at 9:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Morristown.
