Robert J. Kugel, 83, of Manahawkin, New Jersey, formerly of Edison, NJ, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin. Born in Orange, New Jersey, Bob eventually settled in Edison where he and his wife Claire (d. 2002) raised their two sons. He resided there for nearly fifty years before moving to Manahawkin in 2005. A veteran of the Korean War, Bob worked at New Jersey Bell where he served a distinguished thirty year career. His retirement years were spent fishing, visiting Atlantic City and volunteering at Southern Ocean Medical Center. A devoted family man, Bob cherished summers spent with his wife Claire and their family at their vacation home on Long Beach Island. He was also known for his penchant for helping others and his ability to fix or build just about anything.

Predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Claire Kugel (d. 2002), Bob is survived by his children, Robert J. Kugel and his partner Kris Kain of Ship Bottom, NJ, William R. Kugel and his wife, Margaret Donovan of Kendall Park, NJ and his three grandchildren, Lindsay Kugel Burger, Sara Claire Kugel and James Donovan Kugel. Bob is also survived by his beloved companion, Martha Scarpella, his sister in law Clarise Milbrodt and a host of loving relatives and friends.

A celebration of Bob's life will be Friday, February 14th, 12:30 PM, at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Calling hours will be from 11:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the .
