Harvey "Ross" Shiffler, Jr.

AGE: 74 • Long Branch

Harvey "Ross" Shiffler, Jr., 74 of Elberon, died peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in New Castle, PA, he had lived in Long Branch for the past 50 years. Ross was a Technical Engineer at Fort Monmouth for 40 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Long Branch Elks Lodge 742, an Ex-Captain of the Elberon First Aid Squad and Past President of the Elberon Engine Company 58. Ross served his country honorably in the US Army for 6 years. He was predeceased by his father, Harvey Shiffler, Sr.

Ross's greatest love was his family; he was always the first to lend you a helping hand. Ross enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, he had a passion for trains, the Steelers, dressing up for Halloween and living his life to the absolute fullest.

Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Peter Ciambrone of Monmouth Beach; Kathy Sudowsky of Monmouth Beach and his granddaughters Sarah and Kaitlyn and their father Richard Sudowsky; Debra and Robert Clark of Long Branch; his partner, Dolores Basile of Elberon and her son Michael and his wife Michele Basile of Long Branch and their 2 children Makayla and Mia; his former wife, Helen Shiffler of Elberon; his mother Edis Williams "101 years of age" of Leesburg, GA; his brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Martha Shiffler of Charlotte NC; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Eidenire of Leesburg, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, from 4 pm until the time of the funeral services at 7 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Elberon Fire and First Aid Squad, PO Box 2351, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
