Paul Alvin Fuchs Sr., 79, of Avon, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Summit, Paul lived in Bradley Beach before moving to Avon 42 years ago. Paul was a graduate of St. Benedict's Prep, he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees at Seton Hall and his Doctorate in Education from Rutgers. Paul served in the U.S. Army from May 1957 to May 1959. He was a teacher of English and German for 36 years at Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School. Paul liked fishing, reading, watching baseball and he loved the opera.
Paul was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Charles Fuchs. Surviving is his beloved wife of 59 years, Helen Fuchs; 3 children, Paul A. Fuchs Jr. of Washington, DC, Charles F. Fuchs of Basking Ridge, and Elizabeth A. Best and her husband James of Allentown, PA; and a brother. Albert Fuchs Jr.
Visiting will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. A funeral service will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the
