Alice English Percy Askoff, 61, passed away on Thursday, February 20 at her home in Island Heights, New Jersey after a brief illness.
Alice is survived by her loving husband Richard A. Askoff (Rick), her sons Jonathan W. Percy (Whit) and Christopher Andrew Percy; her stepsons Richard Jr. (RJ), Jason and Nathaniel Askoff; her mother Virginia English; her sister Eve Allison; and her twin sister Sarah Punderson. Her father, noted yachtsman and marine artist John A. English, passed away in January 2013.
Alice was born March 2, 1952 in Trenton, NJ. She grew up in nearby Bucks County, PA and was a graduate of Pennsbury High School. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Miami, and worked as an art teacher at a private academy in South Florida. With former husband Dr. Stephen R. Percy, Jr. she resided for a time in Saudi Arabia, then returned to live in Cranford, NJ where she was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Following their marriage in 1999, Alice and Rick lived in Morris Plains, NJ. They moved to Island Heights in 2009, where Alice became a member of the Island Heights United Methodist Church. Alice was a lifelong member of the Island Heights Yacht Club and served as President of the IHYC Ladies Auxiliary, Assistant Treasurer, and Membership Committee Chair. She was also a member of the Toms River Yacht Club. She was active in the arts, serving as Curator of the New Jersey Center for Visual Art's annual International Juried Show and as Vice-president and Chair of the Arts Committee for the John F. Peto Studio Museum in Island Heights, where she curated several successful art exhibitions.
Services will be held Wednesday, February 26 at the United Methodist Church in Island Heights at 11:00 a.m. An additional service will be held on Friday, March 21at Trinity Episcopal Church in Cranford at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, North and Forest Avenues, Cranford N. J. 07016, the Island Heights Yacht Club, P.O. Box 721, Island Heights, NJ 08732, or the Island Heights Sailing Foundation, P.O. Box 1227, Island Heights, NJ 08732.
