AGE: 90 • Niceville, FL

Major Robert I. Satterly, U.S. Army (Ret), 90, of Niceville, Florida passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014. He was born in Boonville, NY. While in the Army, he served in various places through Europe and the USA. He served in WW II in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment/82nd Airborne Division; was awarded a Bronze Star; served in the honor guard for Dwight Eisenhower in England; was company commander in Austria and several other assignments. His wife Mary and family traveled with him in Europe and across the U.S. for 22 years retired with the rank of Major as Motor Pool Officer at Fort Monmouth then settled in Ocean Township where he lived for the past 50 years. Bob had many other post retirement endeavors before moving to Florida. A communicant of the Church of St. Anselm, he and "Mary", who predeceased him, celebrated 67 years of marriage in February 2013. He was predeceased by his son John. Surviving are his children, Dorothy Carretta, Ocean Township, NJ; Michael, Kalispell, Montana; Timothy, Longmont, Colorado; Paula Edell, Upper Montclair, NJ; Lt. Col. Mary Frances Hart USAF, Niceville, Florida; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at the Church of St. Anselm in the viewing chapel at 11:00 AM until the funeral mass at 12 noon. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery & Mausoleum, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Core Out Reach Committee of the Church of St. Anselm, 1028 Wayside Rd.
