Martin A. Costello Obituary
Martin A. Costello

Martin A. Costello, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born in Kiltormer, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, Ireland. Martin was predeceased by his parents, Brigid and Michael and by his brothers, Michael and John, and sisters, Mary and Bridget.

For many years, Martin was the owner of Costello's Travel Service in Newark. His love for Ireland and Irish music was heard on countless Saturday evenings, when Martin was the host of the Irish Road Show on FM radio. Most recently, Martin created a website which allowed for continuous streaming of his weekly broadcast, called Ireland's Own Radio. He was proud of his ability to navigate through 21st century technology to provide this service and to share his love of Irish music around the world through what he loved to call the "world wide web".

Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Bernadette; and three daughters, Mairead (Sean) Clifford, Rumson, Christine (Joseph) Schmitt, Holmdel, and Katie (Christopher) Berarducci, Little Silver; and his grandchildren, Brigid, Molly, Ciara, Ryan, Gavin, Liam, Owen and Declan, and many nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Ireland. As per Martin's wishes, there will be no visitation. There will be a Memorial Mass at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Catharine's Church, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel. Arrangements were entrusted to the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Route 35 N, Hazlet.

Martin had a great love and appreciation for America, but most of all, for Ireland. As he wished, Martin's family will accompany his remains to Ireland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church where he was baptized and he will be laid to rest beside his family in St. Augustine's, Clontuskert, Galway.

Martin was incredibly proud of the formation of Monmouth County's new all-girls high school, Trinity Hall. Donations in his name may be made to the "Martin A. Costello Scholarship Fund" and sent to Trinity Hall, 900 Leonardville Road, Leonardo, NJ 07737. (Checks payable to Trinity Hall, with "Martin A. Costello Scholarship Fund" in the memo field please.)
