Dan Mertz, 59, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, March 6th from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), surrounded by his loving family. Born in Trenton, he spent most of his life in the Kingston, Princeton & Jackson areas before settling in Whiting two years ago. He was a member of the Kingston Volunteer Fire Co No 1 for 40 years. He worked for Princeton Township & Monroe Township MUAs collectively for 35 years before retiring in 2011. He also very much enjoyed working at Prospectors Club/Restaurant in Mount Laurel for over ten years. He was a loving, kind, and compassionate man who offered his help to anyone and everyone. Predeceased by his dad, Earl Mertz, and his brother, Dale, he is survived by Marlene, his loving wife of 10 years, 4 children and their spouses, Laura & Joseph Occhiuzzo of New Egypt, Janie & Rob Smith of Manchester, Christine Mertz of New Hope, PA and Dale & Samantha Mertz of New York state, 3 beautiful grandchildren, Jacob, Hailey & Giana, his mother, Betty Mertz and two sisters and their spouses, Susan & Bill Thompson and Judy & Bob Nemes and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and many, many wonderful friends. Visitation is Monday 4 - 8 pm with a 7 pm service at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester.
