Ann J. Rea, 83, of Wall, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her residence. Mrs. Rea was born and raised in Matawan, and had lived in Wall for 48 years. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary's High School, South Amboy, and worked as a Chemical Operator at DuPont Photo Products, Parlin, for 36 years, before retiring. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Jerry Lynch Social and Civic Club, and the Women of Irish Heritage; an executive committee member of the Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee; and in 1988 served as the Deputy Grand Marshal of the Belmar St. Patrick's Parade. She was an accomplished crafter, who created many blankets and doll outfits. She enjoyed socializing on weekends, and travel, particularly to Cape Cod and Ireland.
Mrs. Rea was predeceased by her parents, Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Hansen) Hourihan, as well as by her brothers, Patrick, Kevin, James and Edward Hourihan, and her sister, Shirley Greene. She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Jack Rea, as well as by her brother and sister-in-law, Jeremiah and Grace Hourihan of Matawan, her sister, Jean Horniacek, of Belleville, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St. Elizabeth's Church, Avon, followed by interment at St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall.
